Anyone who has taken a group tour knows just how important the guide is to the success or failure of the trip. A good guide can elevate and enhance the experience, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime and make guests want to return. A bad guide can do the opposite, leaving guests feeling neglected and unimportant. What are the qualities of a good guide? Based on our own experience, both as a guest on several tours and as guides, We've put together a list of the must-have traits of a good guide.

Walking Tour Guide

Position Description

We are seeking a personable individual to offer our guests an exceptional experience while taking one of our tours. In this role, you will be responsible for engaging guests in an informative and interactive manner. You will provide a wealth of information related to the tour and answer any questions our guests might have to the very best of your ability. We operate 7 days a week, mostly on evenings and weekends, so availability on nights and weekends is a must. This is a part time contract position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • - Greet all guests promptly at scheduled tour times
  • - Outline the tour and timeline before beginning
  • - Determine if any guests have physical restrictions that should be considered
  • - Clearly and articulately provide information to guests in an engaging manner
  • - Answer any questions that the guests have
  • - Demonstrate extensive knowledge of our tour subject matter and related topics
  • - Remain calm, friendly, and enthusiastic at all times
  • - Deescalate any tension with difficult guests
  • - Escort guests through the tour, taking breaks as needed
  • - Keep the tour moving on schedule while still being considerate to guests
  • - Know all safety and security protocols, should they be needed

Qualifications

  • - High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree is a plus
  • - Significant work experience in customer service preferred
  • - Availability on nights and weekends is a must
  • - Experience with public speaking is a plus
  • - Ability to memorize and recite facts clearly and accurately
  • - Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
  • - Friendly, warm, appreciative, hospitable, speaks clearly and at a pleasant pace.
  • - Basic computer skills, including email and word processing
  • - Enthusiastic, engaging, and informative way of speaking
  • - Ability to execute with a high degree of professionalism and excellence, especially under pressure.
  • - Passion for learning and willingness to continue to acquire relevant knowledge

Compensation

Great candidates have customer service experience, server, waiter, waitress, or bartender experience, hotel concierge or hotel valet experience, Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Olive Garden or other high volume retail store or restaurant experience. Chef or high volume cook experience is also a plus, and previous tour guide experience is also a plus.


Van Tour Guide

Position Description

Museum Tour Guide

Position Description

BEST DFW TOURS is recruiting candidates with a background in art history or related field interested in providing tours as museum scholars to visiting groups including college/university students, foreign tourists, seniors, professional organizations, and alumni associations.

We offer a roster of interactive and personalized guided tours. Tour offerings include “Highlight” tours, as well as in-depth visits to the Dallas – Fort Worth multiple museums’ temporary and ongoing exhibitions. Tours typically last between 60 and 120 minutes and are offered during regular museums hours, seven days a week. Evening hour tours are offered by special request.

Ideal candidates will have excellent public speaking skills, fluency in a foreign language, an interest in understanding and relating history though artifacts and images, and an ability to synthesize and communicate new information from the Museums’ rotating schedule of exhibitions. A background in art history or related field is REQUIRED

Expectations

Guides are expected to be available to lead tours several times a month. Hours are not guaranteed and are based on booking requests. Guides should expect to spend up to 3 hours per scheduled tour. Guides are also expected to help developing/maintaining tour content based on their knowledge and professional experience.

Qualifications

  • - Bachelor’s degree in Art History or related field (REQUIRED)
  • - Have teaching, tour guiding, entertainment industry or public speaking experience.
  • - High moral character;
  • - Flexible Schedule, including weekends and evenings.
  • - Flexibility and openness to feedback.
  • - Fluent in English; bilingual a plus
  • - Friendly, warm, appreciative, hospitable, speaks clearly and at a pleasant pace.
  • - Basic computer skills, including email and word processing
  • - Enthusiastic, engaging, and informative way of speaking
  • - Ability to execute with a high degree of professionalism and excellence, especially under pressure.
  • - You must live in the DFW area and have reliable transportation.

Compensation

Guides will be paid a flat rate of $60 per tour plus tips, a separate rate will apply to tour planning and development.
